In the following, we introduce these classifications to you so that you can use them when choosing a movie or series.
What is the age category of movies and series?
You must have seen those English words that are written on the cover of CDs or on the introduction page of movies or series on some websites. Those words are actually the rating of the movie or series based on the appropriate age of the audience.
The age rating of movies and series is determined by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and helps people, especially parents, to choose movies or series that are suitable for the age of the viewers. Each series has different conditions in terms of dialogue, events on stage, etc. For this reason, an age category is specified for each series, and we have specified their age category in the introduction of the series. But what do these letters mean?
Age category of movies
In general, 5 age categories have been defined for movies, which we have explained below:
Category G (General)
General Audience means general audiences that all ages are able to watch these films and it means that the film does not contain anything and is not even dangerous for young children.
PG category
Parental Guidance Suggested stands for Parental Guidance that may not be appropriate for children, meaning that parents may not want their young children to see this series and may not have a problem with it.
Rated PG-13
The abbreviation Parents Strongly Cautioned means a strong warning to parents that some things are inappropriate for children under 13 years old and parents should be careful to allow their younger children to see these movies. These films do not contain violence, sex, or nudity; They just contain some typical love scenes and drugs.
Category R
The abbreviation Restricted-Under 17 means that children under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or an adult, and it means that the board has determined that the content of these films is for adults and that parents are more encouraged than their children to watch these films. see An R rating may also mean that the film contains profanity, violence, sex, and drug use.
Category NC-17
No One 17 and Under Admitted means no one 17 and under 17 can watch this type of movie, the movie may contain explicit sex scenes or unpleasant words, or a lot of violence or all. The NC-17 rating does not mean that the film is obscene or immoral.
The age range of the series
The series has 6 age categories, which we have explained below:
TV-Y category
This rating is for children and they broadcast programs that all children of all ages can watch. These programs are mostly used for learning and have no special restrictions.
Category TV-Y7
This rating includes the network for people above 7 years of age. This rating is visited for the talent of children above 7 years of age and these programs can promote or introduce children’s talent.
Category TV-G
This rating is for all ages and everyone can watch programs with this rating. These networks have the privilege of allowing the whole family to watch TV programs together without any special restrictions.
TV-PG
This rating of programs may not be suitable for young children. The family can show these programs to their children at their own discretion. The rules of these programs are no profanity or very mild, no sexual relations or very little sexual relations, and finally no Harsh conversation.
TV-14
These programs are not suitable for children under the age of 14 and families do not allow these programs for them. Sometimes some scenes may not be suitable for children under 14, in which case this rating is used.
TV-MA
This series of programs is not suitable for the young age of 17. In this series of networks, sexual relations are limited and sometimes nudity is seen, but they are not fully applied.
