Modern Television Technologies

Buying a TV these days has become a relatively difficult task that requires more precision. In fact, the different types of televisions that exist and are available in the market have made it difficult for people to choose and buy. Having said that, it is not bad to get acquainted with the various technologies of making televisions.

● Televisions with relatively old technologies

According to many people, cheap and simple televisions are divided into two categories: LCD and LED. Having said that, it is not bad to know that LCD TVs actually have liquid crystals and LED TVs use light-reflecting diodes, and that is why their consumption is less than LCD types. The color spectrum in LED TVs is wider and the image change frequency is higher in them. The most important point about the difference between LCD and LED TVs is that the second type consumes much less electricity, as much as the electricity consumption of LEDs is 40% less than LCDs. Due to the structure of light-emitting diodes used in LED TVs, the images will be brighter and with higher contrast. Because LCD TVs have older technology, their viewing angle is naturally smaller than LEDs. With these words, the production of LCD TVs has decreased a lot and they have been replaced by LEDs and other technologies. Plasma TVs are considered older than other TV manufacturing technologies in the market and are usually known for their high power consumption. The most important advantage of plasma TVs is in the actual display of black color, and in this sense, none of the new TVs will be comparable to plasmas.

● 3D world

3D TV actually allows consumers to view TV shows, movies, games, and other videos in vivid, three-dimensional form. In fact, these televisions add a third dimension and depth to the images by misleading the human eye and brain. 3D televisions actually use computer technologies to superimpose two images for two eyes. At first, this technology had low image quality, but after the arrival of Blu-ray 3D technology and Full HD TVs, the quality of images in them increased.

The first 3D technology is known as the active shutter and is used by Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony companies. These companies market 3D TVs in various sizes with active shutter glasses. These glasses have a small battery and use LCD lenses that synchronize with the alternating frames of the image on the TV. This system can provide images with a resolution of full HD equal to 1080 pixels for each eye, and in this way, it can display three-dimensional images with high quality or full HD 3D for its users. Glasses based on active shutter technology are expensive and very vulnerable. and the glasses of a specific brand cannot be used with televisions of other brands.

Passive technology, however, is only used in LG 3D TVs and is used by this company. Compared to active shutter technology, 3D TVs based on passive technology have a periodic filter with horizontal and vertical paths that are separated from each other by a black image gap.

Glasses based on passive technology have bipolar lenses, and in this way, when using these glasses, the periodic frames of the image are displayed separately for each eye, and a separate 3D image is produced for each eye. Unlike active glasses, passive glasses are cheap and users can use the same glasses they use in the cinema to watch 3D movies at home and to watch movies with 3D TVs. Users can use passive glasses with a specific brand to watch passive 3D TVs of other brands. Passive glasses have a light and comfortable design, and for this reason, some companies have produced passive 3D glasses that look very similar to normal sunglasses. These glasses can be used outdoors; Because they have UV filters.

However, the problem with passive 3D technology is that this system reduces image resolution significantly. In this technology, a full HD three-dimensional image with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels is displayed on the face of a 1920 x 540-pixel image. On the other hand, a 3D image with a resolution of 1920 x 540 pixels is displayed in passive 3D technology as an image with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels.

● Smart images

Currently, most manufacturers produce smart TVs, and some of them have given different names to their smart TVs; For example, Sony has named its smart TVs Internet TV. Anyway, what is meant by smart TV is a TV that can connect to the Internet and provide Internet services to its users. According to statistics, more than 100 million smart TVs have been sold worldwide. Smart TV works like a smartphone. These TVs can provide various internet services to the user through the TV, and in fact, a smart TV is equivalent to a regular TV with an internal computer. Users can install software on their smart TV, view online videos and images, browse web pages, play online games, and most importantly, access websites.
