Important films: Still life, a simple incident

Sohrab was born in July 1320 in Tehran. He is one of the pioneers of the new wave of Iranian cinema. He loved cinema since he was a teenager and even wrote and performed several plays at the same age. He was 22 years old when he went to Vienna to study cinema. He returned to Iran in the late 40s and worked in radio and television and made several documentaries. His first feature film “A Simple Incident” which was made in 1352 was a social work but completely different from the style and context of social films. Due to its realism, it looked like a cinema verity documentary. The story of a boy who has a sick mother and his father illegally fishes to make ends meet. The film went to foreign festivals and won an award.

His next film, however, was more important: “Still Life”, which was made a year later, won the Berlin Film Festival’s Silver Bear and the Critics’ Prize. The story of a needlewoman who retires and she and her old wife have to deal with this.

The films of the third martyr have a slow rhythm and the camera sometimes stays still for a few minutes to show simple events. After these two films, Martyr Shahid left Iran and continued making films in Germany and finally died in America in 1377 due to colon cancer.


Messenger of Sadr Amali

Notable films: The Girl in Sneakers, I’m Fifteen Song

Iranian director born in 1333 who once became famous for making films about teenagers. He narrated issues from the life of teenagers which were considered almost taboo. From the story of a concubine and getting pregnant of a teenage girl in “I am fifteen years old” to all the things that can happen to a lonely girl in the city in the movie “Girl with Sneakers”.

It is interesting to know that Sadr Aamili started his cultural career as a journalist and was one of the reporters during the days of Imam Khomeini’s stay in Noufel-Lochateau, France. On Imam Khomeini’s flight to Tehran, he only recorded a video report and a conversation. Sadr Aamili founded the first film production and distribution company after the revolution in 1358. In 1361, he shot his first film called “Rahai” in front of the camera. A film that was not very important, but two years later, it was noticed with the melodrama “Chrysanthemum Flowers”.

In the early 1970s, his films were not popular, but after the reform government came to power and the change in the flow of cinema, Sadr Aamili became one of the most important voices in cinema with the film “Girl with Sneakers” (1377). He was the one who introduced Pegah Ahangarani and Alidosti’s songs to the cinema with his films.

In the mid-eighties, Sadr Aamili made a trilogy about Mashhad and Imam Reza. His last film is “The Second Year of My College” produced in 2016. Currently, it is far from its prime. Sadr Aamili in 2004 with Ali Sartipi, who is one of his relatives, and several other people attacked Filmiran Institute, which is currently the largest and most important film broadcasting institution in the country.

Important movies: Red Hat and Aunt’s Boy, Red Hat and Saronaz

Our beloved presenter was born in May 1338. Of course, he is more famous on TV for the brilliant Kolah Red Hat series, but when it comes to the names of prominent directors of Iranian cinema, at least because of the same two films, it is impossible not to mention his name.

Iraj Tahmasab is a theater graduate. He appeared in the cinema for the first time as an actor in the movie “Beyond the Fog”. He has appeared in several films as an actor, none of which were comedies. The first film was made in 1373. After the success of the Red Riding Hood series on TV, he decided to make a movie version of it. The film “Little Red Riding Hood and the Cousin” became an extremely popular and best-selling work, which was loved by children and stole the hearts of adults.

In 1379, he made another children’s movie called “Yeki Bude, Yekee Nadu” which did not receive much attention. A year after that, he made the film “Sweet Girl” starring himself and his artistic partner Fatemeh Motamedarya in front of the camera, which became a bestseller but did not attract the attention of critics. “Red Hat and Saronaz” (1381) was another big success of Tahmasab at the box office.

The last film he made is “Red Hat and Grandma’s Baby” (1390), which did not achieve the success of other Red Hat films and was a sloppy and crowded work in terms of narrative.
